It is a post graduate full time 2 year programme spreading over 4 semesters which aims to provide the student with specialised skill sets in different fields like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell biology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular biology, Cell culture techniques (Animal and Plant tissue culture), Genetic engineering, Analytical techniques, Fermentation, Environmental biotechnology, Agricultural biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Intellectual property. The programme is designed in a way to enable the student to know about the latest technologies in order to be oriented towards biotechnological research and industry

The programme has been designed to offer eligible candidates specialization in a wide range of practical skills, while at the same time build competence in many areas of biotechnology. Entire fourth semester is dedicated to a research project in a reputed research organization and industry to ensure that the student is able to understand the finer points of research and development of processes.

Programme Objectives

  • Identify the application of basic sciences to biotechnological applications.

  • Demonstrate laboratory skills necessary for biotechnological research.

  • Apply the knowledge gained and utilize scientific methods to approach and explore scientific problems.

  • Demonstrate critical reading, thinking and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrate quantitative reasoning skills in biostatistics.

  • Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Identify his/her area of interest in the field of biotechnology and apply the knowledge and skill-set gained towards career advancement.

  • Independently work in a laboratory, with analytical and critical thinking.

  • Evolve as an entrepreneur in biotechnology related start-ups

Pedagogy

A combination of innovative and active teaching-learning methods, hands-on experience and scientific drafting sessions and interaction with subject experts aims to provide the student with an ambience that will help them grow in areas of biotechnology that interest them, and allow them to actively contribute to this growing industry. The pedagogies used will encourage scientific reasoning and drafting skills, active learning, soft-skill development, team building qualities and independent thinking.
